Meet Victoria Schneider: The Well’s New Child & Family Counselor
We are so excited to welcome Victoria Schneider to The Well as our new Child & Family Counselor!
Beginning July 14, Victoria will begin seeing school-age children, adolescents, and families as we continue expanding behavioral health services for children and families in the Norfolk area. We are also excited to share that we are now accepting referrals for child and family counseling.
Victoria brings a unique background to The Well, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Visual Arts with an Art Therapy concentration, along with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She combines evidence-based counseling with creative, hands-on approaches that help children express themselves in ways that feel comfortable and natural.
We asked Victoria to share a little more about herself, her approach to counseling, and what she’s most looking forward to as she begins serving children and families at The Well.
What led you to specialize in working with children and families?
“I specialize in working with children and families because I love empowering kids to find their independence and confidence. I believe healthy family dynamics are built on open communication and ensuring a child’s voice is genuinely heard. Ultimately, my goal is to help families cultivate that essential foundation of stability, mutual respect, and strong advocacy.”
Why The Well? Why Norfolk Nebraska?
“For me, the community and the practice just go hand in hand. I’m moving to Norfolk because I want to live in a place where people really care about family and looking out for one another. And when I look at The Well, your collaborative, whole-person approach is exactly how I view mental health. I want to work somewhere that truly prioritizes helping families thrive, and it’s clear that’s exactly what you all are doing here.”
What excites you most about helping launch child and family counseling services at The Well?
“What excites me most is just the chance to build something from the ground up with a team I respect. I love that I get to bring my passion for supporting kids and strengthening family dynamics into a space that already values whole-person care. It feels like the perfect chance to collaborate and create a really welcoming service for local families.”
Are there any evidence-based approaches or techniques you commonly use?
“At the core of everything I do is a person-centered approach. I think it’s so important to meet kids and families exactly where they are without judgment. Because children don’t always have the words to describe what they are experiencing, I love bringing in expressive, hands-on techniques like art therapy and sand tray work. It gives them a tangible way to process big feelings and show us their world. I also like to weave in age-appropriate mindfulness practices to help them learn how to notice what’s happening in their bodies and regulate those emotions in real time.”
If a parent is nervous about bringing their family/child to counseling, what would you want them to know?
“I’d want them to know that it is completely normal to feel nervous, but there is zero pressure to have it all figured out. Counseling isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong,” it’s a judgment-free space where we build on what’s already going right. I want therapy to feel inviting rather than clinical, so I use hands-on tools like art and sand tray work to let kids express themselves comfortably and at their own pace. Ultimately, you are the expert on your own family, and my goal is simply to partner with you to help your child find their voice and feel supported.”
Outside of work, what brings you joy?
“I tend to find joy in a lot of tactile, everyday things. Outside of the office, you can usually find me working on an art project, gardening, or trying out a new baking or cooking recipe. I also love just winding down at the end of the day by listening to a good book.”
Is there anything else you would like to share?
“I’m so happy to be planting roots in Norfolk and helping build on the child and family counseling at The Well. Whether I’m partnering with families in the office or working in my garden and making art at home, I love focusing on creativity and connection!”
