Board Opportunity: Help Shape the Future of Behavioral Health in Northeast Nebraska

The Well has been serving the Norfolk community since 1991, when it began as a small halfway house for women. Since then, we’ve grown alongside the needs of our community—expanding from a single residential program into a full continuum of behavioral health services, including residential, outpatient, community-based, and crisis response care. Along the way, we’ve added many programs including Men’s Duel Disorder, community support services, and specialized offerings like Mommy & Me to better support parents in recovery.

Today, The Well is a mental health and substance recovery agency in Norfolk, Nebraska. We offer both long-term residential and outpatient treatment. We believe ALL people in recovery from behavioral health disorders deserve to be treated with dignity and care. We’re especially mindful of traditionally underserved populations and people with limited financial resources. We offer a sliding fee scale and do not turn anyone away based on inability to pay. As we’ve grown, we have expanded to serve over 700 individuals annually and now operate across Norfolk, Columbus, and West Point. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), we continue to strengthen access to care and deepen our impact across the communities we serve.

To support our mission, we are currently seeking dedicated and community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors.

What We Ask of Our Board Members

Board members play an active role in supporting the vision and sustainability of The Well. Members are asked to:

  • Attend a monthly board meeting held on the last Monday of each month (except December) at 5:15 PM. Members can join either virtually or in person.
  • Serve on at least one board committee (Committee meetings are typically held virtually for convenience.)

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Reflect The Well’s core values – people who are grounded in hope, show up with generosity, check their ego and embrace diversity.
  • Passionate about our mission and the people we serve
  • Engaged and dependable, willing to show up prepared and contribute to discussions
  • Strategic thinkers who can help guide growth and sustainability
  • Connected to the community, with a desire to strengthen and support local impact

You don’t need prior board experience to apply—just a willingness to learn, engage, and make a difference in NE Nebraska!
